This year marks the 80th anniversary of the beloved classic, The Wizard of Oz, which follows one little girl’s journey as she seeks to find her way home. You may have attended a special screening of the movie on May 7, 2019 at Maiden Alley Cinema. If you were in the audience, you were treated to more than just a great show. Members of Leadership Paducah Class #32 were present in full costume to promote their upcoming event “There’s No Place Like Home,” a night of fun and fundraising coming up on June 8, 2019 at The Carson Center with Presenting Sponsor Region’s Bank.
Leadership Paducah is a leadership development program coordinated by the Paducah Area Chamber of Commerce. Established in 1984, the program is directed towards individuals who demonstrate leadership qualities and exposes them to a variety of topics and issues to better understand our community. Each year the class chooses a service project to benefit a local non-profit organization. This year’s class chose the Paducah-McCracken County Habitat for Humanity as the benefactor of their service project.
Because of the hard work of Leadership Paducah class members and the generosity of the community donors who have already contributed to their efforts, a local family has been chosen for a new Habitat for Humanity build! This home will be built in the fall on River Oaks Boulevard in Paducah. While they’ve made significant strides towards their $70,000 fundraising goal, their work is not done. You can still help!
Give as a Friend of Oz.
Private donations are welcomed as a Friends of Oz sponsorship.
“’The Friends of Oz’ represent the collective donations received from individuals in our community who want to help this family find a place to call home,” says Jennifer Gough, member of Leadership Paducah Class #32. “No amount is too small. Habitat for Humanity’s mission extends beyond building a single home for a family. They are building communities. With every home that is built, multiple lives are transformed. We are grateful for the opportunity to be part of this family’s homecoming.” Friends of Oz donations can be made online at www.leadershippaducahproject.com.
Buy a Brick for the Yellow Brick Road.
Once the Habitat Home is built this fall, a special walkway will be laid for the new homeowners featuring stamped bricks with up to three lines of text that may be used to display the donor’s individual, family, or company name. To place an order for a brick, download this form and submit it to the Leadership Paducah class by email at [email protected] or drop it by the Paducah Chamber office at 300 South 3rd Street in Downtown Paducah.
“There’s magic out there in the world, Auntie Em. There’s things so wonderful that you could spend your whole life trying to think them up and you’d never come close…”
