Don’t Let Winter Keep You From Your Fitness Goals!

If breathing the cold winter air is what’s been keeping you from being active, the Paducah Recreation Center has just what you need to achieve those New Year’s fitness resolutions. With activities hosted every day, there’s something for everyone, and every schedule.

Walking Club

The Paducah Recreation Center hosts a walking club three days a week. Members arrive to a warm, climate controlled facility where they can get their steps in away from the harsh outdoor elements.

Chair Yoga & Chair Chi

Strengthen those joints without lifting heavy weights in the Chair Yoga class. In this class yoga poses are performed with the assistance of a chair to promote flexibility, strength, and alignment. Emphasis is placed on simplicity, repetition, and ease of movement. You will take your body through a varied range of movements and end with breathing exercises and a short meditation. Similarly, a Chair Chi Yoga class is offered. In this class Tai Chi and yoga are blended into one profound art form to create internal well-being for both mind and body. Both yoga classes are acceptable for any level or fitness so beginners are warmly welcomed and encouraged to give it a try.

Middle Eastern Belly-Dancing

Trim up your waistline with a Middle Eastern Belly-Dancing Class. Belly Dancing is a wonderful form of exercise and an expression of poise and grace.

Sculpt & Tone or Funky Fitness

For those looking for a little more intensity, try out the Sculpt and Tone, or Funky Fitness classes. These classes add either weights, bands, dance, or intervals to really get the muscles and lungs fired up. Don’t be intimidated, they’re suitable for all levels of fitness and everyone is encouraged to give them a chance.

Indoor Specialty Sports

For the specialty athletes, team sports such as full court basketball and volleyball are offered. Be ready to run the court and dig out those spikes though, there’s some serious competition on these nights. These groups always welcome newcomers and are willing to give some coaching tips to help others improve or learn from scratch. These sports can also be played during Open Gym. During these hours the gym is segmented into halves and members can play whatever they’d like.

The Paducah Recreation Center is available for reservations involving sports or recreation activities. A Paducah Recreation Center Application Form must be completed and turned into the Parks & Recreation Office at 1400 HC Mathis Drive to be considered.
