It’s National Nurses Week!

Each year, National Nurses Week honors nurses for the work they do and is a week dedicated to educating the public about nurses’ roles in healthcare. Lourdes held a breakfast for their nurses May 7th, an annual event, and they also celebrate National Hospital Week this week with a variety of activities planned including an employee picnic, ice cream truck day and chair massage day. Baptist Health celebrated National Nurses Week with a banquet May 10th to recognize several nurses for their contributions to customer service and quality as well as festivities for National Hospital Week.

This week, we are featuring four exceptional nurses with stories of compassion and dedication:

• Valerie Millis, RN, has been an intensive care nurse for 31 years (Lourdes)
• Tim Butterbaugh, RN, has been a coronary care unit nurse for two years (Lourdes)
• Kim Brown, RN, is a supervisor of chemotherapy in the Ray & Kay Eckstein Regional Cancer Care Center (Baptist Health)
• Kerrie Peck, RN, is a long-time nurse on the cardiac floor (Baptist Health)

About National Nurses Week

Nurses are the unsung heroes of the healthcare community and this week we celebrate their heroic acts and dedication. National Nurses week starts May 6th and ends May 12th on Florence Nightingale’s birthday. Florence is remembered as the “Lady with the Lamp” who made endless night rounds to attend to the wounded and greatly impacted proper medical care in the 19th and 20th century.
