Touchdowns & Tunes is a music and festival experience that brings together two of America’s greatest loves: country music and football. “Nothing draws people like sports and music,” says Bryan Kent, founder of Touchdowns and Tunes. Bryan is a country guy at heart, loving both country music and football. These two loves led him to wonder: “why aren’t football and music married together more often?” It was that question that led to the birth of Touchdowns & Tunes.
This year marks the second year of the event which will take place on Saturday, September 8, 2018, in downtown Paducah. “There is something for everyone,” says Bryan. “We have family-friendly activities taking place throughout the day. It was important to us that there be activities for children like face-painting and inflatables. We’ll be broadcasting live college football starting at noon. We open our gates at 11:00 a.m. and will kick off the music portion of the day with the National Anthem at noon, immediately followed by songwriter performances; my personal favorite part of the day.”
The music lineup is an impressive one. “The first musical performance following the National Anthem is something we call ‘In the Round.’ This will feature three songwriters performing their original songs. Songwriters are the folks at the heart of music. About 75% of songs heard on the radio are sang by someone other than the person who wrote that song. Attendees will hear songs they’ve heard on the radio, but never realized the origin of where those songs came from. This is the heartbeat of the music that is Touchdowns and Tunes”
The songwriters participating “In the Round” will be Lynn Hutton who has written for Eric Church and Brett Young, Tammi Kidd, who has written for Rascal Flatts and LeAnn Rimes, and Tiffany Goss who has written for Brett Young and Clay Walker. Music will continue throughout the day with multi-platinum recording artist Eli Young Band headlining in the evening. Other artists performing throughout the afternoon and evening include ACM Vocal Group of the Year Nominee, Runaway June, Billboard Magazine’s Top 10 Country Artist to Watch, Drake White & The Big Fire, Nashville’s rising independent artist, Josh Door and Nashville’s promising group, Steel Union.
Hosting this event in Paducah provides a great sense of pride for Bryan.
“Paducah is where my heart is. I’m proud to bring something new and exciting back to my hometown area. Touchdowns & Tunes is an event solely focused on entertainment which is what makes it stand out from other events.” The event is expected to draw attendees from up to 200 miles. “Paducah is a great spot for this type of festival. It’s at the heart of St. Louis, Nashville, and Memphis. It’s not uncommon for people in big cities to look for entertainment in smalltown, rural areas where great things are happening. That’s why we picked Paducah.”
Touchdowns & Tunes is designed to be a full-day event for attendees. Food will be available onsite. The daytime activities are aimed towards families looking to enjoy a day together. The main stage will open at 2:00 p.m. with music and performance-driven activities taking place all afternoon and into the evening.
